The sytem is not made by counting the stations. The only way you see is a metal board with the list of streets on the ticket machine.

They are the same, like ticket-machine prices
Here a few exemple prices for 1 person and long route:
Zürich - Bern Fr. 51.-
Zürich - Luzern Fr. 25.-
Zürich - Genf Fr. 88.-
Zürich - Interlaken Fr. 70.-
Important notice: On the SBB-Homepage, they always display a price with Halbtax.
Halbtax is a subscription for passengers, who pay a fee for a year to get tickets cheaper.
Price for Halbtax: Fr. 185.-
Please choose Gewöhnliche Billette. It means regular.
I can find out for you, if the Halbtax is rewarding for you, when I know more about your travelling plans.
Notice: on Weekends after midnight you need an extra ticket for the public transportation with the "N" on the timetable.
It cost you to any of your ticket a surcharge of Fr. 5.- (plus), this you have print out extra and carrying with you.
Also important: Im some train cars, you can not distinguish very well first class from und second class, because they have the same seat colors.

On rush hour almost never a free seat
Lost the train, wait between 30 and 60 minutes
Everywhere crowdet spots, noise, smell ect.
